Eric Davidson to Speak at the Three-day celebration of the earth and how to save it. October 20-22, 2006 at UMASS DartmouthMARION, Mass. – October 10, 2006 – The Marion Institute will host the Second Annual “Bioneers by the Bay: Connecting for Change” conference, to be held at UMASS Dartmouth, from Friday, Oct. 20 through Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006. Eric Davidson, a senior scientist at The Woods Hole Research Center will be speaking with Dr. Robert Corell, Saturday, October 21 beginning at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Davidson is an ecologist and soil scientist interested in the role of soil microorganisms as processors of carbon and nitrogen. He has studied the transfer of carbon and nitrogen gases from the soil to the atmosphere, where they contribute to warming of the earth. His research addresses how human management of the land affects this transfer of greenhouse gases. Dr. Davidson will be speaking on the interactions of climate change and land use change in the Amazon Basin and Dr. Corell will address climate change in the Arctic. Both are part of the three-day conference that will feature workshops on renewable energy systems; new paradigms in business; native ecology; healthy food; youth leadership; holistic health; sustainable communities; a Youth Initiative program; and much more.
